My artistic practice and research consider the various notions and narratives of what courage represents and how courage is perceived with respect to a culture, a country, a region and even a family. While, for example, in the Western World, the Ancient Greek epic poems, like the Iliad and the Odyssey, have shaped people's notion of courage to the present, there are myriads of entirely different stories and mythologies around the world about the meaning, imperative and understanding of courage.
In my work, I am exploring the preconditions, skills and capacities in a person that enables them to take part in and commit themselves to shape a democratic and ecologically sustainable society. I am interested in the motivations, hopes, values, experiences and role models that inform such civic engagement.
